Newport rentals, by neighborhood

Where our apartments are.

LH Newport's 33 buildings are concentrated in the walkable core of Newport, Rhode Island, with one building in neighboring Portsmouth. Here is a guide to each area we own in.

Apartments in The Point & Historic Hill

Newport's oldest neighborhood is a grid of colonial and Federal-era homes between Washington Street and the harbor. Our apartments here are in restored period buildings — original wide-plank floors and fireplaces alongside updated kitchens and baths. Walk to Bowen's Wharf, the Newport ferry to Providence and Jamestown, and the Newport Farmers Market at Long Wharf.

Apartments Downtown, on Thames Street & Broadway

For renters who want to be in the middle of it, our downtown apartments sit above and behind the shops and restaurants of lower Thames Street and along the Broadway corridor, Newport's year-round main street. Expect one- and two-bedroom layouts, many with in-unit laundry, a few minutes' walk from Washington Square, the Newport Public Library and Salve Regina's shuttle stops.

Apartments in the Fifth Ward & near Ocean Drive

South of downtown, the Fifth Ward is a quiet, tight-knit neighborhood of two- and three-family homes with yards and off-street parking. It is a ten-minute walk to King Park beach and the start of Ocean Drive, and a short bike ride to Fort Adams and Brenton Point. Our two- and three-bedroom apartments here are popular with families and Naval Station Newport households.

Apartments in Portsmouth, RI

Fifteen minutes up Aquidneck Island, Portsmouth offers a more suburban setting with easy access to Route 24 toward Fall River and Providence. Our Portsmouth building offers larger floor plans and parking at lower rents than downtown Newport.

Newport is a year-round city of about 25,000 residents that grows considerably in summer. Most leases run twelve months and the busiest move-in windows are June and September. Many of our buildings are within the City's resident parking permit zones, and RIPTA's Route 60 and 63 buses connect downtown to Providence, Middletown and Naval Station Newport.

Every LH Newport apartment includes online rent payment, 24/7 maintenance requests and access to our resident portal and mobile app from day one.

FAQ

Questions renters ask us.

How do I apply for an apartment?

Open any listing above and click Apply Now. Applications are submitted and screened securely online; each adult applicant applies separately. You'll typically hear back within two business days.

Do you accept Housing Choice (Section 8) vouchers?

Yes. LH Newport welcomes Housing Choice Voucher holders and follows Rhode Island fair housing law, which prohibits discrimination based on lawful source of income.

Are pets allowed?

Pet policies vary by building and are noted on each listing. Where pets are allowed, a pet agreement and pet rent or deposit may apply.

Is parking included?

Many of our buildings include off-street parking; each listing states whether a space is included. Downtown apartments without parking are eligible for City of Newport resident parking permits.
